Your email program is known as a "client", and it requires
a mail server program to understand the format and address of each
email that you send (actually, there are two mail servers handling
each message sent ... one on your end and one on the recipient's
end). File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is like email for files, so FTP
client software allows you to send one or more files, instead of
sending a message to someone (or a message with a file attachment),
as you do when you send email. The advantages of using FTP are the
increased speed of transmission and the ability to avoid having
your mail server get clogged up by forcing it to transmit files
as well as messages.
In addition to a variety of commercial software on the market,
many Freeware and Shareware programs are available as downloads
via the Internet. Examples of FTP-related websites are (in no
specific order):
- You must contact us to obtain Login/User
name and password.
- Point your FTP Client software program at
ftp.pointtopoint.biz.
(different FTP Client software programs use different terminology,
such as "Get Listing.")
- Enter Login/User name.
- Enter Password.
- After successful login, follow the instructions
included with your FTP Client software program for uploading
files.
- After successful file transfer, send an email to admin@ptp.biz to
notify us that your file transfer was completed. We will
then download your files!
