The Cap
When body heat is
lost, a large portion radiates through the head; with that
fact in mind, we send a warm knit cap to each of our clients
and vendors each winter, along with a request; that each cap
we send out be then given to someone in need. In other words,
we send a bunch of caps to a bunch of people we know, with
the request that they hand theirs to someone they meet on the
street that looks like they could use it. Or to their church
or community group that can then get it to someone in need.
Or to the Goodwill, Salvation Army or anyone else that can
make good use of it.
2007 marked the ninth consecutive year that we have promoted this project.
Each year, we get warm, positive comments from those who have participated.
And, we know that we've helped a bunch of people to have warm heads as well!
We encourage everyone to establish a similar project at their place of work
or with their community organization. We're happy to share details, so contact
us if you would like to do so.
The Cards
From 1995 through
2003, Point To Point promoted a greeting card collection
program on behalf of St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Boulder
City, Nevada. The Ranch is a nationally recognized and fiscally
responsible community, focused on the individual needs of abused,
abandoned and neglected children of all races and faiths.
As part of a fund-raising project begun in the early 1970's, the children
turn the previous year's Christmas Cards into "new" cards for the
coming season, by precision cutting the card fronts and gluing them to pre-printed
card stock. Each acceptable card made earns a child fifteen cents. These "earnings" are
divided between the kids' savings and college fund, their cottage fund for
special group outings, and to provide extra pocket money. The cards are then
sold through mail order, The Ranch gift shop and The Ranch web site. The
Ranch receives used cards from people all over the world.
Each Holiday Season in those years, we asked our clients, vendors and staff
to send us their Holiday Season cards. We collected them through the end
of February each year and then bulk shipped them to The Ranch each March.
Over the nine year period that we promoted this program, we shipped The Ranch
over ONE TON of used cards! The good news is that The Ranch received a bunch
of cards and the kids earned extra money for themselves and The Ranch. Effective
in early 2004, however, The Ranch announced that they were no longer accepting
cards, as they could no longer manage the cost and handling of the volume
of donated materials they were receiving.
Discounted
and Pro Bono Services
Throughout the year,
we extend support to a variety of our nonprofit clients. In some
cases, we provide services at discounted rates; in others, we provide
services at no charge as donations in-kind. Each situation is evaluated
on an individual basis.
